Drunk nurse who drove 20 miles on wrong side of motorway keeps job

A nurse who drove 20 miles down a dual carriageway in Suffolk at 50mph in the wrong direction while drunk will not be struck off.

Police had to use a rolling roadblock to stop Dorothy Wysoczanaka, who was more than twice the legal drink drive limit, the Sun reports.

She was handed a two-month suspended prison sentence in March last year and today she was issued with a year-long caution by a Nursing and Midwifery Council tribunal.

David Kyle, chairing the tribunal, said: "The panel acknowledged the remorse you have displayed and the insight you have shown into your actions.

"You also described how important your job as a nurse is to you.

"You provided the panel with several positive references relating to your clinical practice and confirmation of your current position as a nursing unit manager."

He added: "There has been no evidence before the panel to suggest that your clinical practice is impaired in any way.

"The panel had regard to the extremely distressing circumstances you had been facing which led to your actions and resulted in the convictions."
