A UFO has been spotted in a photograph in the skies above Cornwall.

The strange object has left UFO enthusiasts guessing at what it might be.

The image gained more interest after it was revealed RAF fighter jets escorted a Russian bomber plane away from skies off the Cornish coast.

But David Gillham, of the Cornwall UFO Research Group, said it was the second sighting of the strange object in as many weeks.

According to the Western Morning News, he posted the image online and wrote: "Any ideas what this object could be?

"Taken at Summerleaze Beach, Bude, N Cornwall 17th February 2015. Looks triangular....but I have no idea what it is?

"The second sighting I have witnessed around N Cornwall in two weeks!"

Users suggested it could be the Russian bomber, but it was pointed out that the picture was taken on 17 February - the day before the Russian aircraft was spotted.

According to the Mirror, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) once had a phone line for people to report UFOs, but it closed in 2009.

"The MOD has no opinion on the existence or otherwise of extra-terrestrial life. However, in over 50 years, no UFO report has revealed any evidence of a potential threat to the UK. MOD will no longer respond to reported UFO sightings or investigate them."

What do you think the object is?
