The Fixer: Amazon refund issued

Updated

Have you been left out of pocket due to poor service or sharp practice? Do you have a money problem that won't go away?

It can seem impossible to get a fair result when you are battling a financial issue alone. But never fear! The AOL Money Fixer is here to help.

Dear Fixer,
Going through my bank statements recently, I noticed that Amazon took £79 from my account last November.

I was surprised because I haven't used Amazon for some time. And when I checked, I found out that it was an Amazon Prime membership fee.

I contacted Amazon to cancel the service, and to ask for a refund as I did not realise that I was paying for Prime membership. It very quickly agreed to refund the £79 taken in November 2014.

However, there was no offer of a refund of the two membership payments taken in 2013 and 2012, when I apparently signed up to a Prime free trial that I then forgot to cancel.

I have never knowingly used Prime services since agreeing to try the service on a trial basis, and I have no memory of being contacted about upgrading to a full membership.

I therefore feel I deserve a full refund of all the annual payments taken. Can you help?

C Mount, London

Dear Ms Mount,

Following my intervention, Amazon has now refunded all three payments, which total £177.

The refund is set at that amount because the cost of annual Prime membership went up from £49 to £79 in February last year - meaning the total includes £79 for this year and two payments of £49 for 2013 and 2012 respectively.
