The least romantic place in the UK is...

The Yorkshire city of Hull has been named the least romantic place in Britain by a new survey from Hotels.com.

With Valentine's Day looming, the hotel search site has has released its annual top ten most - and least - romantic destinations in the UK.

Despite being named the UK's City of Culture for 2017, Hull topped this year's least romantic list, moving up from fourth position last year. Last year, Slough was named the least romantic spot, but the city has managed to escape the ranking altogether, not even making an appearance in the top ten.

But many in Hull take issue with their new label, including florist Rob Knowles, who told the Hull Daily Mail : 'I would suggest, certainly for the younger generation in Hull, romance is alive and kicking.'

London has jumped two places to be named the UK's most romantic destination: the former winner, the Lake District, dropped to second place with Cornwall moving up a spot since 2014, landing at third this year.

Birmingham just escaped being named the least romantic destination for a second year in a row, landing the runner-up position again. Confusingly, as well as topping the most romantic list, London has also placed third on the least romantic list. It seems we either love it or hate it.
