A motorist has been charged with drink-driving while allegedly speeding at 100mph on a stretch of motorway with a temporary 30mph limit in Birmingham.

The Central Motorway Police Group said the driver was arrested and given roadside and custody breath tests after being stopped in roadworks on the A38(M) in Birmingham. Words: PA

Officers said the driver had blown a reading of 72 microgrammes of alcohol while in custody, more than double the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.

The driver, who has yet to be named by police, will appear in court on February 10.
