Brits scammed by Facebook holiday ad: Woman charged
Police have charged a woman from Walsall in the Midlands for an alleged Facebook scam in which people paid deposits for holidays that did not exist.
Last year, several people contacted police to report that they had lost money after replying to an advert online for holidays in North Wales and Devon, reports the Birmingham Mail.
Potential holidaymakers told police they had paid deposits by bank transfer to stay in a caravan but then heard nothing back.
In total, the fraudster is believed to have pocketed more than £900 from victims of the crime, reports the Expressandstar.
West Midlands Police said they later discovered the holidays did not exist and they had lost their money.
Unemployed Kirsty Burge, 26, was arrested in Caldmore, Walssall yesterday on suspicion of money laundering.
She was subsequently charged with five counts of acquiring, using and possessing criminal property and was bailed to appear before Walsall Magistrates Court on 10 February.
