Man seriously injured after 70ft fall at Gatwick Airport

A man is in hospital with severe head injuries after falling 70ft in a car park at Gatwick Airport.

Armed anti-terror police were first on the scene to help the man after the fall at around 12.50am on Friday morning.

He had reportedly arrived for an outbound flight, but fell from an upper forecourt to the lower forecourt at the North Terminal, reports the Surrey Mirror.

The 27-year-old was rushed to St Georges Hospital in Tooting.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a Sussex Police spokesman said: "A 27-year old man was seen to fall some 70 feet from the upper landside forecourt on to the lower forecourt at Gatwick North Terminal.

"He was taken to St Georges Hospital in South London with serious but non-life threatening head and body injuries. There are no suspicious circumstances.

"The man is believed to have been at the airport to join an outbound flight."

The Crawley News reports there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Back in August 2013, a British man died after falling from an escalator at Brisbane International Airport in Australia.

The 42-year-old was due to leave the country when he fell from the escalators.

A Brisbane Airport spokeswoman told news.com.au that the incident had left airport staff "devastated".
