An angry pensioner tried to blow himself and a bus driver up after the vehicle halted a few metres passed his stop.

The bus' CCTV camera caught the moment Wang Shichao threw an antique hand grenade into the driver's compartment.

But only the detonator charge went off, with the explosive falling out of the bomb before it could blow, possibly killing the driver and hurting others, reports the Metro.

According to the Mirror, a police spokesman in Jinhua, China, said: "The live grenade had been stored by the man in his cellar for years, and he decided to use it to get revenge on the bus driver with a suicide bombing.

"He intended to die himself, and was surprised when both he and the driver had survived."

During his trial, Wang said he had complained to that particular driver before about missing his stop.

He said: "I complained to him and he insulted me and therefore I took the hand grenade with me in order to get revenge on him when I met him again."

His attorney asked for leniency considering his age, poor health, and the fact it was his first offence.

According to the Daily Mail,he will be sentenced at Wucheng District People's Court at a later date.
