A regular feature of early bird breaks is the chance to grab free places for children when you book well in advance. Jet2Holidays is offering free child places when you book early, and has a useful filter that enables you to search deals where the kids go free offer is available. All-inclusive holiday firm First Choice also has a 'kids go free' offer for new bookings on selected summer 2015 holidays, cutting the cost of one child's ticket to a variety of hotels and apartments, subject to availability. Thomson has a similar deal allowing one child to go free, so if you have a destination in mind, check the hotel summary page on your search results to see whether the offer stands. Meanwhile, Thomas Cook has thousands of 'kids go for £1' on summer 2015 breaks in the Mediterranean.

Early bird discounts
With competition high at this time of year, many of the major holiday firms try to entice bookers in with discounts. For example, Both First Choice and Thomson's seven per cent discount on all new bookings made after 5 December 2014 applies to summer holidays departing 1 May to 31 October 2015, and could save you as much as £180 per couple on a package deal if you book online.

Thomas Cook will knock £100 off May to October departures when you use the promotional code SUM100, and Neilson have a wide range of offers for early bookers, including savings of up to £200 per adult, £400 per child, and no single supplements for their Beachclub holidays in Greece and Turkey. Meanwhile, if you fancy a relaxing cruise in 2015, why not take advantage of Royal Caribbean's buy one, get one half price promotion on selected sailings?

Low deposits
If you're desperate to book your break and have something to look forward to during the January and February blues, then a low deposit offer will give you a bit of financial breathing space. At Loveholidays.com you'll find deposits as low as £49 on summer 2015 holidays when you book online, while Thomson will allow you to secure your getaway with a deposit of £100 per adult, or £250 for the whole family. If you're really cash strapped, try Co-op Travel, where you can book a holiday with a deposit of just £25, On the Beach, offering deposits of just £10 per person, or Travel Republic, where a deposit of only £1 could mean you can relax in the knowledge that your summer sun is safely booked.

Holiday bargains
Thanks to a perfect storm of a strong pound, the end of air passenger duty for kids under 12, and low oil prices, holiday firms are expected to be offering some serious bargains in 2015, and there are already half-price air fares on offer to everywhere from Berlin to Mexico. For example, you can currently pick up a seven-night half-board stay for a family of two adults and two children in Portugal's Algarve for £620 with easyJet. Cosmos are offering breaks in the Balearics from as little as £145 per person, and the Canaries from £210, plus a 20kg luggage allowance. Thomas Cook's all-inclusive holidays are well worth a look, with seven nights in Tunisia currently on offer from £191 per person.

Sometimes the early bird really does get the worm, so banish those winter blues and book your bargain holiday for summer.
