A mysterious brown creature with sharp teeth and claws has been found on a beach in Santa Barbara, California.

The animal was found near a drain after a storm in the area, reports Keyt.com.

It has not yet been identified, and and no one knows where it came from, although it was found in an area where the sandy water from the harbour comes out of a dredging pipe east of Stearns Wharf.

Earlier this month, a creature that washed up on a beach in Russia and left scientists baffled for eight years was finally identified.

According to English Russia, the creature was found by Russian soldiers on the Sakhalin shoreline in 2006. The Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, and is the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles east of Moscow.

The remains first of all left experts confused as tests on the the bones and teeth showed it was not a fish, crocodile or alligator.

This fuelled theories that the hair-tufted 20ft remains could have been from a prehistoric creature.

But marine experts have now come to the conclusion that it is in fact the skeleton of a large beluga whale, according to news.com.au.

Hopefully it won't take another eight years to identify the mystery Santa Barbara animal. Any ideas? Leave them in the comments box below.
