An Australian tourist has claimed that she was raped by a hotel employee at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The attack allegedly happened when the 27-year-old tourist from Sydney was staying at the five-star hotel in October while visiting friends in Malaysia.

According to the West Australian, the victim, who chooses to remain unidentified, claims whe woke up to find a hotel employee sexually assaulting her at 5am in her hotel room.

Hotel employee, Roaquin Radzmund, allegedly used a copy of the victim's electronic key card to enter the room.

The victim had failed to dead-bolt her door from the inside before going to bed.

According to the International Business Times, the victim approached the Australian embassy for help.

Radzmund was arrested after security cameras identified him entering and leaving the victim's room, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) confirmed on Tuesday.

He appeared at a Kuala Lumpur court on Tuesday charged with rape and could face up to 30 years in prison along with corporal punishment.
