Tennis star Roger Federer is finally set to move into a £6.5 million glass palace on the shores of Lake Zurich in Switzerland.

The Residence, in Wollerau, is built into a slope and spread over three floors, with glass walls and large balconies with superb views over the lake. Standing between two similarly terraced properties, it measures 500 square metres.

"The construction reflects the successful combination of glazing and decorative concrete, based on contemporary architectural style and aesthetics, with minimalist structures leaving ample flexibility for your own personal style," says the developer, Kamata Development.

"The extensive floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to flood into your apartment and permit the perfect interplay of light, nature and your proximity to the water."

There's a glass dome over the living area, as well as a huge natural stone chimney rising through the heart of the house. Despite the huge area of glass, the house has been designed and positioned so that it should remain completely private.

There's underground parking and a swimming pool in the 1.5 acre grounds, as well as two luxury apartments, one of which is believed to be destined for Federer's parents Robert and Lynette.

The main building, meanwhile, will become home to Federer and his wife Mirka, and their two sets of twins - five-year-old girls Myla and Charlene and boys Leo and Lenny, who were born last May. While the construction of the building's suffered from a hitch or two, reports Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag, all is now complete and the family's finally ready to move in.

The Wollerau area, around 20 minutes walk from Zurich and an hour's drive from Basel, has one of the most liberal tax structures in Europe, making it highly appealing for the wealthy. Federer, who was born in Basel, first moved to Wollerau in 2008, and Formula One drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Felipe Massa also live nearby.

Federer has been Grand Slam champion 17 times and is believed to earn more than £19 million a year from product endorsements alone, following sponsorship deals with Nike, Gillette, National Suisse, Rolex, Lindt, Mercedes Benz, Wilson and Moet-Chandon. He holds the record for the most career prize money ever earned, at £44 million.

Federer, who is currently playing in India doe the new IPTL, owns two other properties in Switzerland. He also has a penthouse in Dubai, where he does much of his training.
