Man conned into paying £400 for water
If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
And that old adage proved true once more when a man in Swindon was left £400 out of pocket after being duped into thinking he was buying a new laptop and phone.
According to the Metro, the fraudster approached the unnamed man and showed him a rucksack containing the pricey gadgets, which he could buy for £400.
However, when the unsuspecting buyer went to draw the money, the conman switched the valuable contents for a bottle of water.
The criminal had taken his money and driven off before he realised what the bag now contained.
Officers are appealing for information on the incident which took place in Swindon on Thursday.
It goes without saying that you should always be cautious when offered a supposed bargain by a complete stranger.
Far better to pay a little extra at the shops to ensure any gadget you buy is at least covered by a warranty. And isn't a refreshing bottle of water.
