Plane spotters got a fright when a display pilot flew just feet over their heads.

Solo Turkish F-16 display pilot Captain Yusuf Kurt came in to land very low above a country lane adjacent to the runway, reports the Mirror.

The Irish Examiner reports that the crowd was left ducking and running for cover when the plane came into land at low altitude.

Whilst it might look like the pilot accidentally flew too low, YouTube users point out they know exactly what they are doing.

One wrote: "These guys definitely know what they are doing. It is extremely hard to become a Turkish Air Force show pilot and they get an insane level of training. So, the pilot exactly know what he is doing and is sure that is not going to cause any accident or injury!"

But in one video clip, an onlooker does not sound so sure, shouting: "Bl**** h***! He was a bit close, wasn't he?"

Back in June, a pilot was forced to apologise after narrowly avoiding a sunbather in Heligoland as he crash landed his plane on a beach.

The holidaymaker was soaking up the sun on the island in northern Germany when the plane glided over him, just inches away, as it came in to land.

Pilot Juergen Drucker, 52, barely avoided the man on the beach before hitting a fence and ploughing across a section of the beach before coming to rest on the runway as he flew his Piper PA-28-181 Archer II along the coast, reports the Metro.

He later apologised for the close call.
