The introduction of new routes helped low-fare airline Ryanair to substantially increase passenger numbers last month.

There were also rises in traffic for two other budget carriers - easyJet and Scandinavian airline Norwegian.

Ryanair carried 85.4 million passengers in the 12 months ending in November - a 5% rise on the previous year.

EasyJet carried more than 4.38 million passengers last month, which was 3.1% up on November last year.

In the 12 months ending in November, 65.2 million passengers flew with easyJet - a 6.6% increase on the previous year

Norwegian, whose services include flights from Gatwick to the US, carried 1.76 million passengers last month - a 5% rise on November last year.
