Stonehenge, the Pyramids of Giza and the whole of Paris have been named the world's most disappointing tourist destinations by Reddit users.

Voters on the social networking site criticised Stonehenge for being "small" and said "you can't get very close to it, and it's really not worth the rather long journey from London".

One user said that nearby Avebury Henge was much better, "bigger and you can walk right up to it".

According to News.com.au, many voters said Egypt's famous pyramids were a "kick in the stomach" and "can be seen from Pizza Hut".

Los Angeles was one of the biggest let-downs for tourists, with voters saying: "The whole city is a lie". They said it was "uninteresting" and there was little to it than tacky Hollywood Boulevard.

They claimed Paris was the "worst city on Earth," saying it was overpriced, dirty and "smelled of urine".

Other overrated tourist destinations that were named include Venice, "a gigantic tourist trap," and Dubai which they said was "overpriced, superficial, fake and unfriendly".

Fox News reports that the Caribbean island of Jamaica came up frequently for being full of opportunists looking for "tips" for doing nothing.

And despite being known as a paradise destination, travellers said Bali's beaches were filthy, overcrowded and overrun with scammers.

Niagara Falls, New York City and the Taj Mahal were other destinations that were criticised by travellers.
