Bus driver attacked while tending to child he knocked over (video)
Footage has been released of the moment a bus driver was attacked after leaving his vehicle to attend to a boy he had knocked over in Salford, Manchester.
The 45-year-old driver was actually praised by police for stopping the child from being seriously injured, but was punched by a man from behind when he tried to tend to the boy.
The young boy was hit by the bus in Salford at 3.40pm on 2 October, reports the Mirror.
Police have now released CCTV images of the attack in a bid to find the man responsible.
According to the Manchester Evening News, PC Carl Blower said: "If it had not been for the fast reactions of the driver, the child could have been much more seriously hurt. Thankfully, he received only grazes to his knee.
"While the driver was tending to the child, he was punched to the head twice before the man walked off along Fitzwarren Street.
"I would ask anyone who may recognise the person in the image to come forward or if you witnessed the assault itself, call us."
The attacker is described as being white, 5ft 11in, medium build, with dark, shaved hair. He wore a white T-shirt and grey tracksuit trousers.
Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
