British tourist's missing wallet and passport found 18 years later
Police in Switzerland have found the wallet and passport of a British man who lost them during a trip in the country 18 years ago.
The man, who now lives in the US, lost his wallet containing his British passport and credit cards, while travelling by train from Zurich to Geneva, Chur city police from the canton of Graubünden said.
The wallet was finally found in a shopping centre in Chur last month, after it was spotted on the floor and handed into police.
According to thelocal.ch, the man was surprised and happy about the find, although his passport has long since expired, after police tracked him down via the internet.
According to the Daily Mail, a police spokesman told Switzerland's SDA news agency: "We have no idea how it found its way from the train to a shopping centre.
"But the man was surprised and delighted to have it back, although the passport and credit cards had of course long expired."
It appeared that the wallet contained most - or all - of its original contents.
Chur is the capital of the Swiss canton of Graubünden and lies in the northern part of the canton. The city, which is located on the right bank of the Rhine River, is reputedly the oldest town of Switzerland.
