Man offering free round-the-world trip after break-up

A Toronto man is looking for a Canadian travelling companion called Elizabeth Gallagher to take the place of his ex-girlfriend on a round-the-world trip they had booked when they were together.

Jordan Axani, 28, and his ex-girlfriend had booked a "fairly wicked round-the-world trip for this Christmas" to Milan, Prague, Paris, New York and Delhi.

But now she is not going, he has taken to Reddit to advertise for a replacement Elizabeth Gallagher to go in her place.

And he doesn't want anything in return, except for that person to enjoy the experience.

On his Reddit post, Axani wrote: "I am not looking for anything in return. I am not looking for companionship, romance, drugs, a trade, or to take selfies with you in front the Christmas Market in Prague.

"If you feel compelled to toss me a couple hundred bucks, great. Really the only thing I ask for is that you enjoy this trip and that it bring you happiness."

And why not just change the name and take a friend? He explained: "Anyone familiar with the archaic system that is modern air travel will know that a name change on a ticket is damn near impossible.

"The tickets were frankly so cheap and on so many different airlines that they're not worth the headache or money to cancel."

The three-week trip departs from New York on 21 December and returns to Toronto o 8 January 2015.

Axani added that he doesn't even mind if the 'new' Elizabeth Gallagher doesn't want to travel around together.

He wrote: "We can travel together and see some cool stuff - or not. I'm easy and have no problem with someone taking the tickets and doing their own thing (see ya on the plane!). Embracing the spontaneity of life is more my thing, though, so if you want to travel together (and are not an axe murderer) I'm likely game."

His prerequisites? The girl in question needs to meet the following:

1. Be sane, smart and (hopefully) interesting.
2. Have always wanted to travel, but maybe haven't had the opportunity or cash to see much of the world.
3. Be named Elizabeth Gallagher and have a Canadian passport.
4. Be ready for a rather spontaneous life experience that will, one day, be an epic story that you'll tell your kids.
5. Pay it forward. I've been lucky in life and this is me giving back to the universe. Do something similar someday.

Since noting that his story has "gone viral" Axani has added a couple of updates to his posts, one of which reads: "Well folks, I think it's safe to say this thing is going viral. One thing that's super important: please respect the privacy of the real Elizabeth Gallagher and let's keep this light and fun.

"Remember that this is a feel good story, and let's stay focused on that. Lots of Elizabeth Gallaghers have come forward and will continue to do so, which is all kinds of amazing (yay internet!)."

Aww, we love a happy ending.
