An estate agent in Notting Hill was showing a pornographic TV channel in its window one night last month. Locals walking past on the evening of 2 October were even more shocked than usual, because among the alarmingly expensive properties was a large TV, and instead of showing the news channel normally on offer, they were broadcasting porn overnight. Unfortunately for them a passer by tweeted a picture of the estate agency window.

The agent, Faron Sutaria, told the Metro that they thought a mischief-maker outside the window had changed the channel with a universal remote. They switched it to Babestation - a channel showing naked women chatting to men via a premium rate phone number. In the morning they altered the settings so it couldn't be done again.

Estate agents behaving badly

It has to be one of the downsides of working in one of the professions people love to hate. However, before we feel too sorry for them, its worth pointing out that some estate agents themselves have been guilty of making their own share of mischief. Here are five of the most shocking.

1. In May last year, an estate agent in Virginia was caught by hidden cameras which had been installed by the homeowners. They saw him searching through wardrobes and drawers in the master bedroom - before stealing a negligee.

2. In January last year a letting agent from Plymouth was jailed for two years, after stealing £210,177. The money had been put down as deposits by tenants who through it was being kept carefully in the bank. Instead he used the cash to prop up the business and take a number of holidays.

3. In December last year, a New Jersey couple sued two estate agents who had failed to sell their home. They installed hidden cameras to check they were working hard to get the property sold, and discovered the two agents were conducting a sexual relationship at the property.

4. Back in 2010 a Luton estate agent was jailed for six years, after stealing the identities of two homeowners in order to commit £2 million of mortgage fraud. Spelling and factual mistakes in his second mortgage application persuaded the firm to launch an investigation.

5. We reported last month on the agent who was caught on a hidden camera stealing a bar of Galaxy from a flat he was showing to potential tenants. He said he had been feeling dizzy with hunger and had taken the bar as an emergency measure, but his argument didn't persuade his bosses, who fired him.
