Couple's holiday home in Florida built on wrong plot

A couple's dream holiday home turned into a nightmare when they realised it had been built on the wrong plot of land.

Mark and Brenda Voss, from Missouri, paid $680,000 (£425,00O) to have the luxury beach house built in Hammock Dunes, Florida.

But it wasn't until six months after the 5,000 square-foot property was built that it emerged it was on the plot next door to the one the Voss' owned.

According to the Metro, Mr Voss, who owns a real estate company in Missouri and 18 of the residential plots at Hammock Dunes, said: "We are in total disbelief, just amazed this could happen.

"We may have moved to that area someday, but with this headache and grief, we're not so sure."

The couple paid $160,000 for the plot in the gated Ocean Hammock resort community.

The Voss's builder, Keystone Homes, has contacted the two lot owners and is trying to negotiate a settlement, according to the company's vice-president Robbie Richmond.

Speaking to the Daytona Beach News Journal, Richmond said: "The buck stops with the builder. We know that. We are in the process of trying to schedule a conference call and find a fair resolution without the lawyers.

"I have built about 600 homes in Flagler County and this has never happened to me before. It does happen, but it's rare."
