A top Swedish model has been left brain dead after being hit by a bus while bike riding in New York.
Anna Maria Mostrom, 29, was riding along Main Street on Roosevelt Island last Wednsesday when a bus making a left turn hit her at around 9.18pm.
According to the NY Post, Anna, who was riding without a helmet, suffered severe brain injury from the impact with the pavement.
She is currently on life support at the New York Cornell Hospital, but her prognosis is reportedly bleak.
Family and friends have been keeping vigil at her bedside.
According to the NY Daily News, Anna's father, Ronny Mostrom, told a Swedish newspaper: "She was rammed off the bus and the damage was so severe that she is brain dead.
"We can hope for a miracle, but the doctors said there is no realistic chance."
Mostrom's first break as a model came as a contestant on Sweden's Next Top Model in 2005.
She then moved to Los Angeles, before settling in New York two years ago, where she has walked the catwalk for the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Roberto Cavalli.
The driver of the bus remained at the scene after the crash and has not been charged.
MTV founder Robert Pittman called the crash "an absolute tragedy", while another friend Timothy Phillips wrote on Facebook: "Her family and many of her friends are gathered here with her now and the staff of the hospital say that they have never witnessed such an outpouring of love and affection for anyone before."
