A pet parrot that went missing four years ago has been returned to its British owner - but he no longer speaks English.

Darren Chick was overwhelmed to be reunited with his beloved pet, Nigel - but says that the parrot has lost his British accent and now speaks Spanish.

Mr Chick lived in California with Nigel before he went missing four years ago.

It is still not known where the bird disappeared to for the four years he was missing, but he was eventually returned to him by a vet who mistook him for her own missing African grey parrot.

According to AP, when Teresa Micco found the parrot, she managed to track Nigel's microchip to Mr Chick.

Mr Chick said the reunion brought tears to his eyes.

The Daily Breeze reports that Nigel now says, "Que pasa?" to passers-by.

Darren says he has no idea where the bird has been for the past four years.

Earlier this year, a parrot was hailed as a hero after he came to the rescue of a woman who was being viciously attacked by a stranger in a north London park.

Wunsy the African grey was being taken for a walk - and fly - in Sunningfields Park, north London, when his female owner was grabbed by the shoulders and pushed to the ground.

He flapped his wings and squawked, causing the attacker to take flight towards Great North Road, Hendon.

PC Chris Cutmore from Colindale Police Station said: "This was a random attack on a woman walking out of a park.

"Although the parrot Wunsy came to her rescue, we are obviously very keen to trace the suspect and prevent him from attacking anybody else."
