Thomson Airways unveils plans for family booths and couples' pods on planes
Thomson Airways has revealed plans to introduce family booths, couples' pods and child-free zones to its plane in the next five years.
More legroom, beach bars for adults and kids' clubs with trained crew to keep children entertained with arts and crafts were also mentioned in the airline's five-year plan to brand itself the "holiday airline".
The company will also introduce a fleet of 47 new Boeing 737 MAX jets as part of its plan.
Speaking to the Mirror, David Burling, boss of parent firm TUI UK & Ireland, said: "Our overall goal is to make travel experiences special and, as the flight marks the start and end of the holiday, we see it as an integral part of the whole holiday experience.
"That is why we want to define and lead a new category of flying – the holiday airline."
The seats will also come complete with Champagne coolers and mood lighting.
From next year, the airline will fly to new destinations, including Costa Rica, Malaysia and Vietnam, as well as Caribbean islands such as Curacao, Bonaire, Antigua and St Lucia.
In-flight meals and drinks will also be based around the destination, with a "dedicated holidaymaker" also giving advice to passengers about their holiday destination.
According to the Daily Mail, Thomson Airways will introduce family seating, couple pods and child-free zones by next summer, while the fleet of new planes, which are 14 per cent more fuel efficient than the current aircraft, will be delivered by 2020 as well as two new Dreamliners.
