The horse had wandered into the police headquarters in Winsford from a nearby field.

Speaking to the BBC, a Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said the animal was "quickly escorted" back, adding: "We like to ensure a warm welcome to all our guests at HQ and at neigh point did the horse pose a risk to security!"

Officers at Cheshire Police shared the moment on Twitter, writing: "New 'neigh'-bour visits Cheshire Police HQ #HorsinAround."

According to the Daily Telegraph, the pony is now safely back in its paddock.
