National Express drivers 'shaken' after 30 teens attack Dundee bus

A gang of youths has attacked a national express bus in Dundee, Scotland, triggering a police investigation to find the culprits.

The teens threw stones at the bus breaking about seven windows as well as a door, leaving the bus driver 'shaken'.

The attack took place at Dayton Drive on Saturday night after the 9A service had stopped.

A horrified onlooker described how the driver had no choice but to get out and stand by the bus as he waited for police to arrive, reports the Courier.

An eyewitness told the Evening Telegraph that around 30 youths were involved in the attack.

"I was coming home from a night out when I saw 30 youths outside a bus, throwing stones at it.

"Then they jumped into the bus and started kicking the bus driver's screen.

"I thought it was a disgrace, the youths were only about 15 or 16 years old.

A National Express spokeswoman said: "We can confirm one of our buses was involved in an incident involving a group of youths at Camperdown Leisure Park on Saturday night, which resulted in significant damage to the vehicle.

"This was an extremely rare but very serious case of crime involving one of our buses. We are grateful to the motorist who came to the aid of our driver during this incident and for the quick response of the emergency services.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Officers are making inquiries into vandalism to a bus that happened in Dayton Drive at about 11.55pm on Saturday evening.

"Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time, or anyone who has information that could assist with inquiries, to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
