Vauxhall Adam gets serious with new 'S' model
This is the new Vauxhall Adam S, a spicy new variant of the company's cutesy city car.
Sitting at the top of the Adam range, the S is fitted with a 148bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which propels the three-door hatchback from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds, and on to a claimed top speed of 124mph.
The S is some 49bhp more powerful than the non-turbo 1.4-litre model on which it is based. All examples will be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox when it arrives in UK showrooms in January.
The S also gets a makeover to differentiate it from regular models. It sits on lowered sports suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels, behind which sits an uprated braking system from Vauxhall's performance brand VXR.
Vauxhall has also added hollow camshafts and a plastic intake manifold in a bid to save weight – no doubt contributing to the car's claimed 44.1mpg combined fuel economy.
The Adam's roof is finished in a contrasting scarlet, as part of the car's 'Red 'n' Roll' styling theme. Inside, there is red trim and leather trimmed Recaro sports seats. Buyers will also get Vauxhall's IntelliLink infotainment system, which allows for smartphone integration and dashboard control of several apps.
The Vauxhall Adam S will make its public debut at next month's Paris motor show.
