Land Rover flies the flag with special edition Evoque

Revealed just as it was announced Scotland was to remain a part of the United Kingdom (a coincidence we're sure), Land Rover has lifted the covers off this special edition Evoque.
Called the SW1 (the post code covering London's upmarket Belgravia and Westminster), this limited-run model goes against the traditionally restrained good taste of the Range Rover lineup, featuring Union Jack graphics on its roof spoiler and door mirror housings.

Predictably, it'll be available in three colours: red, white and blue, while the roof and 20-inch alloy wheels are finished in white. For those not looking to attract quite so much attention with their patriotism, a 'monochrome' version will also be offered, finished in a choice of black or grey.

Inside, black leather slathers the seats, while there is a special red anodised finish to the rotary gear selector on automatic versions and models fitted with a manual gearbox get a Union Jack motif on the gearstick, to match the ones on the headrests, carpets, door sills and key fob. All you'll need now is some Union Jack boxer shorts and you'll be well away...

"The Range Rover Evoque is a fresh interpretation of classic Range Rover design cues" said Land Rover design director and chief creative officer, Gerry McGovern.

"These special editions are a celebration of our Britishness. Evoque is designed and engineered in Britain and we know that resonates with our global consumers."

Alongside the unveiling of the SW1, Land Rover has announced that its new laser head-up display (soon to be seen on the forthcoming Jaguar XE saloon) is now available as an option across the Evoque range. The system, which Jaguar claims is based on military technology and provides a much sharper image than conventional systems, can project the car's speed, gear position and sat nav instructions onto the windscreen.

The Land Rover Evoque SW1 will make its public debut at next month's Paris motor show, before going on sale (globally rather than just in the UK, strangely) in mid-October.
