A lucky tourist managed to capture heartwarming pictures of a mother bear 'piggy-backing' her three cubs across a difficult stretch of river in southern Alaska.

The three little grizzly cubs hitch-hiked on mum's back so they could get safely to the other side of a river in the Katmai National Park.

The magical moment was caught by Norwegian tours Jon Langeland, who told the Mirror: "It's hard to describe the feeling you get from seeing something like that."

According to the Daily Mail, the 60-year-old dermatologist added: "The photo where the mother bear stops in the water, stands up with her beloved cubs balancing on her back and looks at us is magical.

"These spring cubs - just a few months old - are totally dependent on their mother.

"These two boys and the girl still live mainly on milk from her."

Grizzly bears are protected animals in this area of the world, where there are numerous beaches that offer them the opportunity to feed on salmon and cool off.
