If you're looking for affordable luxury on a European city break you may want to look towards Greece, Portugal and Poland, where budget-conscious travellers can enjoy a night at a five-star hotel for as little as £84.

Five-star hotels offer all the luxuries you could ask for on a city break - swimming pools with views, amazing suites, Michelin-starred restaurants and glamorous bars. But these often come with a cost.

Savvy city slickers looking to explore what the European Union has to offer can now save £££s as new research from travel search engine KAYAK.co.uk has revealed the cheapest cities for a five-star hotel break.

The study found that five-star digs are available on a shoestring in one Polish city (£84), while a luxury break in an English city breaks the bank as indulgence seekers will have to splash out an average of £321 per night. A number of surprising destinations emerged for an affordable city break in Europe, including Prague, Brussels and Madrid.

Meanwhile, the costliest capitals and cultural hotspots may not surprise you. Popular tourist destinations Rome, Florence and Amsterdam were three of the most expensive cities to book a five-star hotel.
