British backpacker found dead on 'The Beach' island in Thailand
A British backpacker has died on the Thai island which was made famous by film The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Jay Davies, 21, was living and working in Ko Phi Phi on a three-year adventure. He was found dead on the tropical island and investigators are trying to establish his cause of death.
The Sun reports that Jay, from Llanelli, West Wales, was on a dream trip, having the time of his life and meeting other Western tourists.
His parents Christine and Jonathan Davies said: "He was a lovely boy and everybody loved him."
According to the Daily Mail, Jay kept in contact with his friends back home after setting off on the trip when he left school.
The only child had the word 'wanderlust' tattooed across his torso.
His friends paid tribute to him on social media, describing his as a "little legend".
Lucy Dixon wrote: "Not only have you left footprints in paradise, you've left footprints across everyone's heart."
A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed Mr Davies had died in Ko Phi Phi on 24 August 2014 and said they were providing his family with consular assistance.
