Wife tries to stop cheating husband by running onto airport runway
A woman has been arrested after scrambling over the top of a secure fence onto an airport runway - because she believed her husband was on the plane flying off to be with another woman.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested the woman after she managed to get over the 10ft-high barbed wire fence and onto the tarmac at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Sunday.
She had reportedly first asked at the counter for the plane to be delayed so she could get her husband off, but when this was denied she drove towards the hangar and jumped over the fence.
According to the Consumerist, one employee said: "She ended up going onto the bigger runway and she was essentially wandering around there. She was literally going to try to stop the plane."
Workers managed to grab the woman and put her in a truck, but she was still shouting and trying to get out.
She received minor cuts in the incident and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Airport authority spokesman Peter Spurway said this is the only time he can recall anybody getting past security and onto the runway.
He told the Chronicle Herald: "I've been there (for more than) eight ... years and this is the first incident of its kind that I'm aware of. The fact that she was seen by the (navigation) tower very soon after she got on the airfield ... is important in that they were able to ensure that no aircraft ever came near her."
The airport rerouted one small plane that had just landed and moved onto the taxiway.
According to RCMP spokesman Sgt Alain LeBlanc, the woman's husband had been contacted and he was not even on the plane.
It is believed the woman will not be charged with anything by the RCMP.
