Britain's best hotel is a Holiday Inn Express in Birmingham, according to Chinese tourists.

The Birmingham branch of the chain hotel has been named the best place to stay during a visit to the UK.

The hotel received the highest rating from Chinese visitors out of all the other hotels on the website Booking.com.

The three-star hotel costs around £49 a night, and received an average 9.6 out of 10 on the hotel booking site.

The 236ft high rise tower block, known as Snow Hill, beat the likes of the Old Town Chambers in Edinburgh (2nd), and The Paradise Hotel in Bath (3rd).

And it seems the Chinese aren't the only ones singing the hotel's praises.

On Tripadvisor, only 13 of the 288 reviews are negative, with travellers hailing is complimentary Express Start Breakfast.

One user titled her review 'Good city break hotel' and wrote: "I was travelling with 2 children doing a 2 night stay and visit to Cadbury World and had a very enjoyable stay.

"Location of hotel very central - 10 minute walk to centre of things, 15 minute leisurely walk with children (6&8yr) to New St station.

"Cleanliness - being new hotel the condition of rooms and bathrooms very good and adequate level of cleanliness for 3* hotel. The shower was fairly powerful and spacious. Breakfast good."

There has been a 50 per cent increase in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Britain this year compared to last year.

According to the Daily Mail, Jason Grist, the UK Area Manager of Booking.com, said: "In line with industry trends, we have experienced a 50 per cent increase in UK bookings by Chinese tourists in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same timeframe in 2013.

"In addition, we have seen the range of accommodations stayed in increase by almost a third. We believe this growth is just the beginning."

In March 2014, VisitBritain launched the GREAT China Welcome campaign, which aimed to make it easier for Chinese tourists to navigate a holiday to the UK by identifying hotels, attraction and tour operators providing information in Chinese.

VisitBritain said visitors from China have doubled in the last five years, and hopes to bring around 650,000 Chinese tourists to Britain by 2020, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The campaign has been joined by 170 members of the tourism and travel industry, including Booking.com.
