Rio Ferdinand struggling to sell mansion
Rio Ferdinand has sliced £700,000 off the asking price of his mansion just a month after putting it on the market.
The Premier League star put his house up for sale at £4.5 million this summer, after deciding it was time to move on from Manchester United.
Now Rio has cut that to £3.8million in the hope a new United signing will buy it, reports the Sun.
The property is in the traditional footballer's territory of Alderley Edge, and boasts some of the usual footballer features - such as a pool, jacuzzi, gym, solarium, and a games room - which comes complete with a bar.
For your £3.8 million you get a period property with seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, along with 1.5 acres of lawns and two garages. Ferdinand bought the place back in 2003, and has put his stamp on it. The estate agent highlights that the house has been extensively remodelled in recent years, reflecting the family's tastes.
Whoever designed the kitchen has chosen a restrained countryside aesthetic - with exposed beams, oak floors, muted green tones, and an Aga (plus a separate oven for those times when tradition is a bit too much like hard work). The rest of the home, meanwhile, could have been chosen from a catalogue of a footballer's favourite interior design features.
One of the most striking is the oak bar with a copper work surface in the games room. The ceiling speakers and pool cues lined up against the wall are an indication that this might be a playroom for the boys.
The swimming pool, meanwhile, is surrounded with marble tiling, and doors leading out onto the lawns. There's also an interesting painting on the wall of the rear view of a nude, which is an unusual choice. And he has to be applauded for his decision not to stop at one gym - but to install a second.
Of course, the property comes with the vital celebrity accessory - double electric gates guarding the drive.
It's an impressive house, with a celebrity connection. It's also far from the priciest property for sale in the area. At the moment there's a £5,950,000 6-bedroom house on the market, and a new build priced at £5,750,000 .
However, the sheer number of footballers in the area, and the activity in the transfer market, means those who are keen to snap up a former footballer's home may not have to wait too much longer for a cheaper one to come up.
David Beckham's former home went back on the market in 2012. Beckham had moved out seven years earlier, but the converted barn was a good deal cheaper - at £2 million. For that you got an equally impressive indoor pool - but sadly no bar.
