Malta holidays: best things to see and do

Anyone looking for a late summer destination will struggle to find anything better: Malta is magic, and September is the perfect time to explore the delights this gem has to offer.

At a teeny 316 km 2, what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in sights – and seafood.

From the culture-crammed capital, Valletta, to the buzzing nightlife of Paceville and the medieval Mdina, there's plenty to see and do.

All the boxes are ticked if you are on the hunt for the ultimate beach holiday. With summer temperatures averaging 27°C, you can't visit this Mediterranean gem without hitting the beach, eight of which boast Blue Flag status.

With neighbouring Gozo just a short sail away and the snorkelers' paradise of Comino even closer, boat trips are a popular choice for tourists, although both are easily reached by ferry or water taxi too.

So forget Spain or Greece for this summer's island getaway and check out lowcostholidays' top ten things to do in Malta instead:
