Jetstar flight attendant warns passengers to dispose of drugs

A Jetstar flight attendant warned passengers returning from a festival in Byron Bay to get rid of any drugs - because sniffer dogs were waiting at the Sydney Airport terminal.

The staff member on the Gold Coast to Sydney flight on Sunday night said: "We have been told there are sniffer dogs and quarantine officers waiting in the domestic terminal.

"If you need to dispose of anything you shouldn't have we suggest you flush it now."

Many of the passengers were returning from the Splendour in the Grass music festival, which Lily Allen had performed at.

According to abc.net.au, the announcement caused a rush for the toilets.

A Jetstar spokesman confirmed the announcement had been made, telling the Australia Daily Telegraph: "We're required to play a pre-recorded quarantine announcement for customers on all flights across interstate and territory borders within Australia.

"Our procedures also allow cabin crew to deliver the quarantine message through a public announcement and on this occasion the crew member elected to do so.

"The crew member's words were poorly chosen and are plainly at odds with the professional standards we'd expect from our team. We're addressing the matter with the cabin crew member involved."

According to the Daily Mail, some passengers were left shocked, while others took to the Jetstar Australia Facebook page to praise the staff member, with one person writing: "Thank you for caring for your Splendour passengers. Very thoughtful and kind thing to do.

"Hope the staff member will be promoted."
