Bikini-wearing freediver gets VERY close to shark
Would you get this close to a reef shark wearing just a bikini? Fearless free diver Ai Futaki appears to be very comfortable with the situation that would terrify most people.
The world champion freediver was filmed getting very close to the predators by ocean photojournalist Tim Rock at Vertigo Reef in Yap, Micronesia, near Papua New Guinea, reports the Mirror.
Yap or Wa′ab is an island in the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean. It is considered to be made up of four separate islands: Yap Island proper (MarbaQ),Tamil/Gagil, Maap (Yapese: Maap′), and Rumung.
The three are contiguous though separated by water and are surrounded by a common coral reef.
They are formed from an uplift of the Philippine Sea Plate, and are referred to as "high" islands as opposed to atolls.
The land is mostly rolling hills densely vegetated, and mangrove swamps line much of the shore.
A top place to go shark diving in Yap, where Ai often goes, is at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel.
It's website reads: "Yap is a world-class location for diving with reef sharks. Thanks to our healthy shark stocks, encounters with the three most common species – Grey Reef Shark, Blacktip Reef Shark, Whitetip Reef Shark - are almost guaranteed during a one-week stay."
