There's no doubt thatScotland's biggest city also has the biggest personality, and with the spotlight shining on it for the Commonwealth Games, we thought we'd celebrate some of Glasgow's wondrous delights.

This bustling metropolis has something for everyone. Food, culture, fun, nightlife and lots of activities: anyone watching the Games will be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding things to do when they're not in the stadiums.

With an emerging European-style café culture and revitalised River Clyde district (pictured above), the city is now brimming with more than just adrenalin. Eateries abound: places not to miss include the Hanoi Bike Shop (Beyonce popped in to this Vietnamese restaurant while on her world tour earlier this year), and the Ubiquitous Chip, one of the few spots in the city that serves original-recipe venison haggis.

Culture vultures, meanwhile, will love the Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum of Transport on the banks of the River Clyde and the city's mystical 37-acre Victorian cemetery, the Necropolis. For some relaxation, head to the Zen Garden hidden at the back of St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art or take a drive to the majestic Loch Lomond, the largest expanse of freshwater in Britain.
