Brits have been going crazy for Prosecco it seems, with sales doubling in the last year alone.

Data from online comparison site Mysupermarket show that show the number of bottles sold at Sainsbury's and Waitrose has rocketed 70% since last summer, while Tesco, M&S and Morrisons have all reported a sharp rise in sales.

In fact, the Daily Mail reports that the popularity of Prosecco is growing at twice the rate of Champagne, with Brits increasingly switching to cheaper alternatives.

Brits branching out into new areas
Dror Nativ, champagne and sparkling wine buyer at M&S told the newspaper:

"Nearly three bottles of sparkling wine are sold for every bottle of champagne. Twelve months ago, the ratio was two to one.

"Prosecco is the biggest driver of this, but we've also seen an increase in sparkling wine from other countries and regions.

"Customers are gaining the confidence to branch out and experiment rather than relying on just champagne.

"During the World Cup, we sold more than 3,000 bottles of Brazilian sparkling wine!"
