A study by consumers association Which? has found that may people are being charged over the odds when they take laptops to high street names for simple repairs. It deliberately introduced a simple fault onto 24 laptops, which meant they wouldn't start up, and took six of the broken laptops to each of the four most well-known high street names for repairs.

They estimated that repairs should cost no more than £50. However, while some people weren't charged at all, others paid up to £170 (at one branch of PC World), and a shocking 60% of the 'experts' couldn't fix the problem. They said this result was actually worse than the previous time they conducted the test, when 50% were able to mend the fault.%VIRTUAL-SkimlinksPromo%
