Fergus and Judith Wilson are the living embodiment of the buy-to-let dream. They retired early from teaching, and in the past 22 years, they have built up an enormous property portfolio of almost 1,000 houses in and around Ashford and Maidstone in Kent. However, Fergus, a 65-year-old former maths teacher, has said that the couple are ready to cash in and sell the lot.

So is this a sign that the property market has peaked?
