Hot new Vauxhall Corsa VXR for 2015

Vauxhall Corsa VXR

Vauxhall has confirmed that there will be a hot VXR version of its brand new Corsa, which is likely to be launched in 2015.
"We'd like to do one, there's such a following for it we'd be crazy not to do it, there's definitely a strong case," Ian Mitchell, Vauxhall's small car brand manager told Auto Express. "You might be seeing something next year."

Currently details are thin on the ground, but the marque has confirmed that the new performance hatchback would outgun its rivals in terms of power, particularly the 180bhp Ford Fiesta ST.

With a 197bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre engine recently introduced to the Cascada convertible range, this motor is the most likely candidate for the forthcoming Corsa VXR. While it represents only an 8bhp power boost over the current version, it leaves scope for more powerful iterations in the future - as has been the case with the current version, which bows out with a 202bhp Clubsport edition complete with performance Bilstein suspension and a limited-slip differential.

However, with the Fiesta ST currently leading the way as the critics' preferred driver's hot-hatch, the new VXR is going to need more than sheer power to knock the fast Ford off the top spot.

The Luton brand is currently getting ready to unveil the fourth generation of the standard Corsa hatchback on July 9. AOL Cars will be bringing you all the details as they are announced.
