Security has been stepped up at British airports following intelligence that terror groups may be developing bombs that escape current detection methods.

Air passengers will undergo extra bag searches after the normal security checks, as well as more thorough screening of shoes and electronic devices such as laptops. Yesterday, some passengers were subjected to body searches and their clothing and shoes swabbed for explosives. A dozen extra body scanners are believed to have been installed.
