The traditional family set-up of a male breadwinner and a stay-at-home mother is on the decline across Europe, with the UK one of the most equal countries. Research from NatCen Social, the Institute of Education's Thomas Coram Research Unit and the University of East Anglia (UEA) has found that only one in five British families has only a male breadwinner.
