A woman has been banned from Memphis Zoo for life because she jumped the barrier of the lion enclosure so she could the animals cookies.

According to Time magazine, she was last week also spotted throwing objects into the same enclosure.

Eyewitness Michelle Beasley said: "[She was singing] some song that was telling how much she missed them. It was bizarre.

"I've never seen someone singing to a lion. It was really loud."

Memphis Zoo spokesperson Abbey Dane told WMC Action News5: "Last week she was noticed by our security staff throwing objects into the lion exhibit; at that time she was asked to leave the zoo."

She said that both times the woman was trying to feed the lions cookies. The woman had jumped the barrier, leaving only wire separating her from the animals.

According to the Daily Mail, Dane added: "It is crucial that all visitors respect the barriers put in place for the safety of themselves and our animals."
