Prince Harry to watch Brazil play Cameroon
Prince Harry will watch Brazil play Cameroon in their latest World Cup match as his South American tour begins today.
Harry's seven-day trip to Brazil and Chile will see him not only watch football but carry out a range of engagements from visiting rainforests to paying tribute to the military achievements of both nations.
Despite England being knocked out of the global football tournament Harry is still expected to watch and cheer on the national team when they play Costa Rica tomorrow in their final group match.
Harry will also visit the Sao Paulo drug district know as 'crack land' or Carcolandia, to learn about a project to help users beat their addictions.
Later today Harry will join patients with neurological problems canoeing on a lake as they undergo rehab at a hospital in the capital Brasilia.
Other highlights of the tour will see the Prince visit the Ayrton Senna institute in Sao Paulo to learn how it is using education to fight social exclusion and inequality, and tour the training base that Britain's athletes will use during the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Harry's private secretary Edward Lane Fox said: "Prince Harry is visiting both countries on behalf of the British government to help support UK interests in the region and also in support of his own charitable interests which include disadvantaged children, promotion of sustainable conservation and support to the armed forces.
"The itinerary is tailored to Prince Harry's interests and, as you may expect, will contain both a mixture of formal and informal.
"When the eyes of the world are on Brazil and the wider South American continent during the World Cup, the timing of Prince Harry's visit will allow these countries to showcase their positive social support programmes.''
During his first full day in the Chilean capital of Santiago, Harry will call on President Michelle Bachelet before visiting a local nursery school to chat to the youngsters, then travel to a military base to meet officers and soldiers.
The following day, on June 28, the Prince will travel to coastal city of Valparaiso to meet members of its British community and learn about the city's volunteer firefighters.
During his final day in Chile, Harry will visit a day centre and meet children with mental and physical disabilities and the institution's staff.
The Prince will be joined by a team of five during his trip - Mr Lane Fox his private secretary, adviser David Manning - Britain's former ambassador to the US - two press officers and an orderly to help with logistics.
Harry's return flights from the UK to South America will be by scheduled services as will his flights between Brazil and Chile. He will charter a plane for his internal trips within Brazil.
