An enormous rundown Georgian mansion in Northumberland is being sold for £1.

The catch? You'll need another £1.2 million to spend to get it off the Buildings at Risk register.

Old Whitehall House, a listed building in a rural setting near the town of Berwick, has been put on sale for the tiny price because over a million is required to refurbish it.

According to the Chronicle Live, the sale details on RightMove read: "The proposed sale of Whitehall House offers a purchaser the opportunity of restoring this B listed Georgian mansion house in a wonderful rural location.

"The property, currently derelict and on the Buildings at Risk Register requires completed restoration and would be a significant undertaking but would when complete would be an impressive country residence.

"The property is being offered to the market to any purchaser looking to restore the property and with the condition that any purchaser must be able to restore the property to a wind and watertight state so that it is removed from the Buildings at Risk Register."

Edward Seymour, head of sales at Berwick estate agent Edwin Thompson, said "hundreds" of people had got in touch after hearing of the £1 start price.

However, according to the Mirror, he said only "three or four" parties were still interested after hearing they'd need £1.2 million for the project.

He added: "They seem to find the reality is a bit harsh!"
