Portugal holidays: Where to find the best beaches
Holidays in Portugal are massively popular for Brits, not least because the beaches are world-class - particularly on the beautiful Algarve. And with pretty much guaranteed sunshine, it's not surprising that we flock there in our thousands during the summer, and even in the winter months.
Portugal's incredible coastline alternates between soaring cliffs and fine sandy beaches, little coves, rock pools (perfect for families), wide stretches of silky sands, rural windswept dunes and rolling waves (perfect for surfers). In other words, this part of the world has something for anyone in need of a good beach holiday.

So glorious are these beaches, in fact, that Portugal regularly tops lists of the best beach destinations in the world. Last year alone, the Algarve was voted Europe's Leading Beach Destination in the World Travel Awards, while Dona Ana beach came top of Conde Nast Traveller's Best Beaches in the World.
One of the best things about a beach holiday in Portugal is that even when it's at its busiest, you can always find somewhere with enough space for you. The south-facing coast of the Algarve is the most popular with holidaymakers, but even here it doesn't take much to escape the high-rise resorts and their crowds of sun worshippers.
So how do you decide which coastal gem is best for you? TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice Awards recently revealed the top ten beaches in Portugal. This is where they are and what they look like...
