Bentley to launch GT3-based Continental
The new model, which is expected to be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month, is likely to be a great departure for the successful model line, boasting around 700bhp and appealing to keen drivers with its rear-wheel-drive only configuration.
Bentley is keen to close the huge one-tonne weight difference between the road and racing version of the Continental GT, and so as well as ditching the heavy four-wheel-drive system the new model is expected to sport a body made largely out of carbon fibre.
To ensure some visual commonality between the new road car and the aggressive, low-slung racer, final preparation will take place by Bentley's own race engineers, reports Autocar.
The new car has already been spotted testing at the infamous Nurburgring racetrack in Germany. The prototype models indicate that the new flagship Continental will sport more aggressive aerodynamic bodywork than regular models, and is likely to be offered with a fixed rear wing similar to that on the track-only version.
However, those seriously considering the prospect of putting a deposit down on this ultimate version of Bentley's svelte continent-crusher would do well to make their local dealership aware as soon as possible. The model is likely to be made as a limited run special, of which only 30 are likely to be offered to UK buyers. Bentley is already taking deposits.
