A newly-married couple have both been killed after their cars collided into each other on their way to work.

Cristina Muniz, 26, and Nicholas Cruz, 31, both worked for Mahard Pullet Farm, near Wichita Falls on the border between Texas and Oklahoma.

Because they worked different shift schedules, they often took two different cars to work.

They were both driving on a narrow road with no markings when Ms Muniz reportedly drifted across the road and hit her husband's truck.

According to the Metro, neither of the couple, who married last April, were wearing seat belts.

The NY Daily News reports that rescuers needed special tools to extricate the couple from their crashed cars on Wednesday morning.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Jymie Ha told the Times Record News: "It appears speed and the layout of the road, including a hill crest, are going to be factors in the cause of the accident."

The couple leave behind three young children.
